A recession is a significant decline in economic activity that lasts for more than a few months. It usually shows up in falling output, income, employment, and spending across the economy.Resesyon, ekonomik faaliyette birkaç aydan uzun süren önemli bir düşüştür. Genellikle ekonomi genelinde üretimin, gelirin, istihdamın ve harcamanın düşmesinde kendini gösterir.

A common rule of thumb defines a recession as two consecutive quarters of falling gross domestic product (GDP). Official definitions vary, though. In the United States, for example, a committee looks at a broader set of indicators, including jobs and income.

For households, recessions often mean job losses or fewer hours, slower pay growth, and tighter credit. For businesses, they mean weaker sales and less investment. Asset prices, such as stocks, can fall too, though they often recover.

Recessions are a normal part of the economic cycle, and they end. Having an emergency fund, manageable debt, and a diversified approach to saving helps you get through them with less stress.
